Pensacola Lighthouse

We decided to visit the Pensacola Lighthouse/Museum on Sunday and discovered that it has a great history dating back to the Civil War and that the base and harbor were controlled by Confederate troops back then.

The real reason for the visit was I just wanted to climb the 177 steps to the top and see the view. “I felt the burn!” and the heat and humidity wanted to suck the air out of your lungs as you claimed upward. It was invigorating; and besides I didn’t want the 12 year old behind me passing me because I was too slow. Patricia didn’t climb because of her knee possibly giving out but now regrets it a little not trying.

The lighthouse is also said to be haunted. The Travel Channel and SciFi’s ghost hunters did a documentary awhile back that was shown on TV and came to the conclusion that yes, there is strong evidence that ghosts exist within the walls of the lighthouse and keeper’s quarters. Actually I think it would be more fun explaining to kids what a “chamber pot” was, but that’s just me. I don’t believe in ghosts. (What was that?)
